Dr. Hashim Hasan Balubaid

Dr. Hashim Hasan Balubaid is a Senior Consultant in Internal and Geriatric Medicine with extensive experience in geriatric medicine, long-term care, and extended care. He has served as Head of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, Department of Medicine, at King Abdulaziz Medical City, National Guard Hospital, Riyadh, since 2006, and as Consultant in Geriatric Medicine at the same institution since 2005. He is also an Assistant Professor at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) and Co-Chairman of the Middle East Academy for Medicine of Aging (MEAMA). Dr. Balubaid is the founder and former President of the Saudi Geriatric Society, and the main founder of the first Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Training Program in Saudi Arabia, established at King Abdulaziz Medical City. He has served on numerous national committees, including the Family Affairs Council's Elderly Committee, the Higher Military Medical Committee, and the Saudi Health Council's Elderly Committee. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah (1995), and completed his Internal Medicine residency at King Fahad National Guard Hospital, Riyadh. He went on to complete fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine at the University of British Columbia and in Hospice Palliative Care Medicine at Fraser Health, Burnaby, Canada. He holds the Saudi Board in Internal Medicine, the Arab Board in Internal Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP). Dr. Balubaid is a prolific author and editor with numerous peer-reviewed publications on geriatric care, dementia, elder abuse, and healthy aging, including a chapter in the Oxford Textbook of Geriatric Medicine and editorial work on the Textbook of Geriatric Medicine International. He is fluent in Arabic and English.
