About the Doctor
Dr. Afnan Nassar is a Consultant in Prosthodontics and Associate Professor at Umm Al-Qura University, based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She practices clinically at Umm Al-Qura University's Dental Teaching Hospital, and in private practice at Biolife Poly Clinics and Samir Abbas Hospital, Jeddah. She earned her Bachelor of Dental Medicine and Surgery (BDS) from King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, then went on to earn a Master of Public Health and a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry in Advanced Restorative Prosthodontics from the University of Sydney, Australia, before completing her PhD in the diagnosis and treatment of orofacial pain and temporomandibular joint disorders. Her clinical practice covers prosthodontic oral rehabilitation, alongside the diagnosis and treatment of orofacial pain and temporomandibular disorders (TMD), using clinical assessment tools including RDC/TMD, DC/TMD, SCL90R, and DASS10. Her treatment methods include behavioral modification, jaw exercises, home care, neck and shoulder physiotherapy, laser therapy, medications, oral appliances, Injection Therapy for Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and Facial Pain. She has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed papers in dentistry, and has held numerous academic leadership positions at the Faculty of Dentistry, Umm Al-Qura University, including Head of the Dental Public Health Division, Head of the Medical Ethics Committee at the University's Dental Teaching Hospital, Head of the Postgraduate Programs Planning Office, and Head of the Patients' Relations and Ethics Committee. She is a member of the Saudi Dental Society, the Saudi Dental Public Health Society, the Australian Dental Association, the Australian Pain Society, and the Australian Prosthodontic Society, and has taken part in community educational campaigns, including World Cancer Day and the International Day of Disabled Persons.
